Speaking to the media on Monday at IKON Park, Darcy Vescio reflects back on season one, while looking ahead to upcoming season 10.

Reflecting back on playing in the first ever AFLW game:

"The whole night was a bit of a blur to be honest: I feel my memory's been interfered with by footage and photos and stuff. It was just something that I've never felt before - it genuinely felt like people were not just Carlton or Collingwood supporters, they were there to witness something that they probably never thought they would see and you could feel that emotion.

"With everything that happened during the game and even now when I meet different people, often they'll say 'oh I was at the game, I was sitting in this spot and I was crying the whole time'.

"It's just really special that so many people have different recollections of the night, but they were all there to witness something really special happening."

Reflecting on each other as players:

"It's amazing seeing players like Britt Bonnici. You've been a force in AFLW, I can't imagine what it would have been like being part of the first game as an 18 year old.

"I think I was 22 or 23 and I felt like a baby, so to think you were fresh out of high school and having that experience is amazing and the way you've built yourself into the player you are now, it's awesome."

On the Round 1 tradition of Carlton-Collingwood:

"It's such a privilege to get that opportunity. I definitely understand that other clubs want that opportunity too, but I think it's pretty special to be able to come back to it in season 10. I don't really know what they'll plan going forward, but I know it definitely just creates a different edge heading into the season - when you know you've got the first game, there's just a different sort of energy.

"That's not to say I think that we deserve to have that game, [but] we're very lucky to get given that opportunity."

On the 12-game season and the importance of starting well early on:

"I think for us we just want to have a start that we can be really proud of. It's easy to plan ahead and think about the games you've got, but we just need to keep getting better every round. We know whatever happens on Thursday night, we want to play well and we want it to kickstart continuing to build throughout the season.

"The opportunity for us is to be able to continue to build like we have during pre-season and become a team that we're we're proud of."

On working towards a premiership and success:

"That's what we're working towards. We're in the third season of the Buck era and it feels like we're really starting to understand how we can push ourselves to the next level.

"I'm really excited. I don't know where we'll go this season but I feel like we're in a really good position to become a new team and write a new story for us. Everyone's just excited to really dig in and push each other to be better. I really want to see success.

"I don't know whether I'll play for two more years or eight more years, but I want to see us be a team that's a real threat in the competition, and that's what we're pushing for."

On the McKay sisters:

"I think we always talk about the young kids coming through and with Kez passing the torch to Abbie, it's really felt like those that younger group of players are really taking the program and understanding the impact and influence they have within the Club and the league more broadly.

"To see Soph announced as well, I'm really excited. It's really cool getting to see Abbie and Sophie experience this together: I can't imagine doing it with one of my siblings, it would be pretty wild.

"I feel really privileged to watch them and get to experience that. I'm excited to see what Soph brings on Thursday.

"From the Giants (practice) game, she's got a lot of flair to her game and I think she can charge people up with the way she plays. She's super dynamic, super athletic, I have been playing on her a little bit at training and she almost took a specky on me the other the other day, so that was quite humbling.

"I just think she's an awesome person to have at the Club, and she's shown us so much so far and it's only been pre-season, so I hope she has a long and illustrious career."

Work/life balance for Darcy in the off season:

"I was in LA for two nights, a bit of a FIFO mission from Japan.

"I got to see [Beyoncé] and that was amazing: if you want to talk high performance, Beyoncé is one of the highest-performing people I've ever seen.

"Just the whole show from start to finish, the visuals, the sound, the energy, the crowd, it was super inspiring seeing someone at the top of their game and real bucket list moment.

"Thursday night might see us singing Beyonce out on the field."
