Nick Haynes will remain in the Navy Blue in 2026, signing a one-year contract extension with the Carlton Football Club.
Moving across from GWS as an unrestricted free agent at the end of 2024, Haynes featured in every game this year, earning a spot as a fan favourite amongst the Navy Blue faithful.
Known for his intercept marking ability, which is an elite part of his game, Haynes rates second in the league and first for Carlton for average marks per game (7.8) in 2025.
The seasoned defender slotted straight into the backline, assisting Jacob Weitering in the absence of Nic Newman. Haynes was dominant in the side's Round 7 win over Geelong, collecting 23 disposals, 13 marks and eight intercept marks.
An accomplished player and an invaluable asset for the young Blues down back, Haynes arrived at the Blues with 211 games of experience, including six final series and a grand final.
Haynes showcased his versatility towards the back end of the year, shifting to the wing for the final month of the season with good effect, having 433 meters gained, ranking first in the Blues win against Port Adelaide.
Head of Recruitment Nick Austin said Haynes has plenty more to offer at the AFL level.
“Nick has been a welcome addition to our backline since joining the Blues and we are so excited to see him re-sign for another year,” Austin said.
"Nick adds a lot of depth to our backline. He is a player you can trust who will go out and play his role. His intercept marking ability and natural football IQ have been outstanding, plus to go out and play every match in 2025 is a testament to his work ethic and professionalism
“For our younger defenders, like Lachie Cowan and Harry O’Farrell, to be able to train alongside and learn from all his experience is extremely invaluable for their growth, which we have seen across this season.
“We are excited to see what Nick can produce in the Navy Blue in 2026 and are thrilled to see him remain at IKON Park.”
