Taking the field for the first time in the league’s inaugural match at IKON Park in 2017, Gab Pound becomes just the third Carlton AFLW player to reach 75 games.
Selected at pick No. 30 in the 2016 AFL Women’s Draft, Pound quickly emerged as a fan favourite, recognised for the iconic long sleeves and headband, and relentless efforts across the backline.
The Albury local has become part of the furniture at IKON Park, with her lockdown tackling pressure and precise kicking efficiency holding her in good stead in her 10th season.
Her footy journey started at Riverina (AFL Canberra), before making the move to Melbourne to study paramedicine in 2013, where she played for Melbourne University’s VFLW side.
She was one of 16 Melbourne University players to get picked up in the inaugural season, and quickly made her self known in just her third season, being awarded All-Australian in 2019.
2019 saw a consistently stellar season for Pound. In Round 4 she starred across half back with 16 disposals and two tackles, backing it up the week after against Collingwood with 16 disposals and three tackles - a vital pillar in Carlton’s 2019 grand final appearance.
Now, Pound continues to lead on field as an experienced defender, and a shining example to her younger teammates.
She joins stellar company in Navy Blue history, with Darcy Vescio and Breann Harrington (nee Moody) the only other Carlton AFLW players to have reached the milestone.
Pound will run out in the Navy Blue for the 75th time this Sunday against Sydney in Pride Round, kicking off at Henson Park at 1.05pm.
