INSTANT impact, plus shoring up the Club’s future.
In a manic end to deadline day, Carlton welcomed the experienced pairing of Will Hayward and Ollie Florent while also bringing in these extra first-round draft selections as Charlie Curnow made his way to Sydney.
Speaking to Carlton Media soon after the 7:30pm deadline, GM of Football Chris Davies said the net result offered the Blues “great flexibility” both this year and the coming years.
“Getting in three first-round picks in the future for the Club was an outstanding result… bringing those picks in will give us a great deal of flexibility for the future, with the players we’ve potentially got coming in from a draft perspective over the coming years.
“What we’ve done is brought in a significant amount of players who will give greater optionality to the coaches and add things to the group that we think we haven’t had and need in the future.
“I leave the trade period very comfortable in the work we’ve done, and happy that the Club has the players coming in and the flexibility we need for the future.”
The Blues welcomed five players in the trade period, with Florent and Hayward joining Ben Ainsworth, Campbell Chesser and Liam Reidy over the course of the 10 days.
On the two former Swans, Davies said he couldn’t wait to see what the pair could produce as two players possessing skillsets the Club sought out this off-season.
“The great thing is they’re outstanding people firstly, and want to play for Carlton into the future. They’re both ecstatic to end this trade period coming to the Blues.”
