JUST try wiping the smile off of Yasmin Duursma’s face.

It’s a big week to be a Duursma, with Yasmin and the family not only looking forward to a preliminary final in Brisbane, but also celebrating youngest brother Willem being selected with pick No.1.

That was made official on Wednesday night, with Yasmin unable to quell her excitement for a landmark event for the family - while also being mindful of what’s to come this week.

As with everything, it was all about striking the right balance.

“I will get home as early as I can, straight to bed ready for training! I’m just trying to enjoy it and not think about it too much… obviously the excitement is building,” Duursma told Carlton Media.

“I’m trying to keep myself calm and treat it like any other week, but it’s my first time playing in a prelim final.

“The vibes were high this afternoon in the hotel room. He’s waited through all three drafts for it to be his turn: I’m very excited for him.”

It was a whole family affair at Marvel Stadium on Wednesday night with Essendon’s Xavier and North Melbourne’s Zane all there, while their parents couldn’t have been quicker to lock in a trip to Brisbane for this Saturday.

In Yasmin’s own words, “Mum and Dad are beside themselves”.

“It took them two seconds after the game to call me saying ‘We’ve booked our flights, we’re coming to Brisbane’.

“It’s such an exciting week for our whole household.”

And while there are even more colours to add to the family collection, Blues fans can be safe in the knowledge that while there’s red and black, royal blue and white plus blue and gold also present in the Duursma household, Yasmin is right at home in the Navy Blue.

A recent two-year contract extension to remain at IKON Park until the end of 2027 was confirmation of that.

“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

“I’ve loved the last two years I’ve been at Carlton, and I couldn’t see myself anywhere else. We’re doing so well at the moment, I just want to keep building with my team.”
