Uncompromising in pursuit of sustained success

The Carlton Football Club has released details of a five-year strategic plan that aims to cement a 17th premiership for the Club, leading to a second flag by the end of the 2015 season.

The Strategic Plan, Carlton’s Blue Print for now and the future, is the result of months of discussion and planning between the Board and Senior Management of the Club, in association with outside consultants. It is an extensive document that outlines the objectives the Club will strive to achieve in all areas of the business over the next five years.

“This is about taking the Carlton Football Club forward. Our promise is to be uncompromising in pursuit of sustained success and our mission is to win premierships and to provide amazing experiences,” said Carlton President Stephen Kernahan.

“Our core business is football and success on the field is what this Club is about and this plan is based around ensuring we have the structures, the people and processes in place to be successful. Everyone involved at Carlton want the Club to be successful and to be able to enjoy the ultimate success.

“We will be uncompromising in our pursuit of this success.”

Kernahan said it was natural that everyone will focus on the objective of winning two flags in the next five years and while this is the key, the premierships are one part of the overall plan that is designed to take Carlton forward.

“We have strived in recent years to provide the very best facilities and support for our players and the opening of the world-class facilities at Visy Park last year was a vital part of this plan. We will continue to ensure Carlton has the best resourced Football Department because this is our core business. However it is important to remember this is one element of the plan going forward,” Kernahan added.

Another key element of the plan is the growth in membership and the supporter base with a focus on engaging with supporters to provide a closer relationship between the club and its members and supporters.

Financially the Club is focused on having a healthy balance sheet with sustained surpluses for future investment, while continuing to have the best resourced Football Department in the AFL.

“While our focus is on winning our 17th premiership, we have an obligation to our members to ensure the Carlton Football Club is in a sound financial position and this means a healthy balance sheet with surpluses that enable us to invest in the Football Department, facilities, programs and people.

“This Strategic Plan is more than just words and ideas; it has meaning and is part of the culture of the Carlton Football Club. This is a living plan, one that everyone at Carlton; the Board, Management, Staff, Coaches and Players will live by.

“We believe this is a true blue print for our future, the benchmark for how the Club operates today, tomorrow and in the future,” said Kernahan.
