CARLTON will head into today's  AFL mid-season draft with the first pick, and one spot to fill on their list.

AFL.com.au take a closer look at who is on the radar to join the Navy Blues on Monday night.

Mid-season availabilities: One (Tomas Bugg's retirement)
Filled to March 15: Michael Gibbons (Sam Docherty) and Matthew Cottrell (remaining spot from Rookie Draft)

What do they need?
The Blues will have an eye on pace and creativity. In saying that, don't be surprised if Carlton targets a midfielder.

Who's available?
Coburg forward Sam Lowson is perhaps the best pressure player in the draft pool and has 14 goals from six VFL games to start the season. Former Geelong forward Cory Gregson has received some AFL interest, while Adam Tipungwuti is also a lively prospect.

Do they have a pick?
Carlton has one selection available as a result of Tom Bugg's premature retirement. The Blues were among the busiest clubs during the SSP period, signing Michael Gibbons and Matt Cottrell as a result of Sam Docherty's ACL injury.

The whisper: While the early rush linked Carlton with Lowson, the late mail suggests Kyle Dunkley is the man for the Blues. Given they're likely to select first – and Dunkley is a clear standout from the draft pool – it will be hard to see the Blues passing up on the Footscray midfielder.
