The Carlton Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Griffiths as the Club’s VFLW Senior Coach for the 2020 season.

Griffiths arrives at Ikon Park with over a decade worth of coaching experience, including seven years with Richmond and Port Melbourne in both the VFL and VFLW competitions.

His most recent position was as a senior assistant coach at Richmond in the VFL, where Griffiths looked after the forwards as part of the coaching group this year that helped the Tigers win the Grand Final at Ikon Park in September.

In addition to Griffiths’ new role he will also work as a development coach within the AFLW program, working closely with AFW senior coach Daniel Harford and assistant coaches Shannon McFerran, Steve Salopek, Brad Fisher and development coach Adam Dancey.

Carlton General Manager of Women’s Football Ash Brown said the Club was excited to bring a coach of Griffiths’ experience into the female program at Ikon Park.

“Paul has proven himself to be a wonderful high performing, player-focused coach across the VFL and VFLW competitions for a number of years now and we are thrilled to welcome him to Carlton,” Brown said.

“Paul has such a passion for the game and prides himself on helping develop players both on and off the field, he brings a vast array of coaching experience that will be an asset to our program.”

Griffiths said he was excited to get stuck into his new roles with both the VFLW and AFLW programs.

“I am really looking forward to this opportunity of coaching Carlton’s VFLW side and also playing a role within the AFLW program,” Griffiths said.

“The Carlton playing list has so much potential and I’m really looking forward to investing in this group and getting the best out of every player who pulls on the Navy Blue guernsey.

“I’d like to thank Richmond for my time there and giving me invaluable experience over the past two seasons.”

Griffiths will start his role as the Club’s VFLW coach when the players return for pre-season training in December.
