CARLTON will have a distinctly new feel when it heads to South Australia to take on Yartapuulti on Saturday night.
The Blues have made three changes to the side which enjoyed a 12-point win over the Western Bulldogs last week, calling on an emerging trio of reinforcements in the process.
Co-vice captain Jacob Weitering will miss the clash after being unable to complete main training on Wednesday due to calf tightness. As a result he will be given the week off and is expected to be available to play next Friday.
Also out of the side is Zac Williams, who has been managed for the trip to Adelaide.
Rounding out the changes is the already confirmed Ollie Hollands (ankle).
In Weitering’s place is inclusion Wade Derksen, who returns for his third game of the campaign after starring at VFL level in recent weeks.
It was just a fortnight ago when Derksen kicked five goals as a forward, yet moved to defence last week where he hauled in 10 intercept marks against Footscray.
Flynn Young has been recalled for his first game of the 2026 season, returning to the same venue to take on the same opposition as his debut game last year.
Young played eight of the last nine games of 2025 following his selection as a mid-season rookie, while he has been in standout form for the Carlton Reserves all season - he has kicked goals in each of his five games, including a 21-disposal, three-goal game against North Melbourne last month.
The final inclusion is youngster Talor Byrne, with the first-year Blue returning to the fold after five consecutive games earlier in the campaign.
On the back of an impressive three-goal haul in the VFL last week, Byrne’s inclusion means the Blues’ 2025 draft class of Harry Dean, Jack Ison and Talor Byrne will all feature for the first time.
All in all, the Blues will have seven players in their 23 with less than a dozen games experience come Saturday night: Jagga Smith, Flynn Young, Harry Dean, Billy Wilson, Talor Byrne, Wade Derksen and Jack Ison.
