VFL Senior Coach Damian Truslove speaks on the performances of every AFL-listed Blue in their Round 18 win against Gold Coast.
4. Ollie Hollands
28 disposals, 10 marks, 10 tackles
Ollie played half-back and midfield, and he had an excellent game on the back of his pressure around the source. His tackling pressure was excellent, as was his ability to outnumber and run to support contests, while he found plenty of footy on the day.
6. Zac Williams
22 disposals, five tackles, three intercepts
Zac Williams played a combination of inside mid and half-back. I thought he worked really hard to give us offensive support, and his composure and smarts with the ball in hand were a highlight on the day.
16. Ben Camporeale
30 disposals, 13 contested possessions, six clearances
Benny played inside mid and was excellent at stoppages. He won a lot of contested possessions around our stoppages and helped us win territory and get the ball inside 50: he continues to work hard on his defensive patterns.
25. Liam Reidy
10 disposals, three clearances, three tackles
Reidy unfortunately came off before half time with a concussion, but prior to that, he was competing really well and helping us win territory from stoppages.
28. Harry Charleson
22 disposals, eight marks, five intercepts
‘Gaz’ played across half-back and gave us a lot of drive offensively. He was also strong in his defensive positioning and continues to improve his contest.
30. Jack Ison
16 disposals, six marks, three goal assists
‘Iso’ played across half-forward. He played a slightly new role across half forward which he’s still learning, and I thought he got better as the game went on. His second half was strong and he used the ball really well by foot - he's always very dangerous with ball in hand.
37. Jordan Boyd
25 disposals, nine rebound 50s, seven marks
‘Boydy’ also played across half-back and gave us a lot of drive and run. He also defended hard and supported his teammates at many defensive 50 contests, while he was also a good leader on the day.
38. Flynn Riley
Eight disposals, 15 hitouts, three clearances
It was a big challenge for Flynn against Jarrod Witts in the ruck, so it was a good learning experience for him. He competed hard and followed up well. He was our skipper on the day and led from the front, with his encouragement and support of his teammates.
40. Hudson O’Keeffe
Three disposals, six tackles
‘Skull’ played the majority as a key forward, with a little bit of time in the ruck. He competed really hard in the air and did a good job of getting the ball to ground for our smalls. His tackle pressure was really good, as was his leadership in our forward half.
41. Matt Duffy
Nine disposals, five tackles, four marks
It was ‘Duff’s’ first game back for a couple of weeks. He played as a key back and he competed hard and halved several contests, while he used it well by foot when he had the ball.
42. Adam Saad
26 disposals, 10 marks, 8 intercepts
‘Saady’ played mid-tier back. He defended really well, won and halved all his contests and was influential in controlling our ball in the back half and the speed of the game once he won the ball in our back half. He was a good leader on the day.
