The Carlton Football Club has locked in two of its promising first-year talents, with forwards Talor Byrne and Jack Ison signing contract extensions that will keep them at the Blues until at least the end of 2028.

Byrne has made an immediate impact in his debut season at IKON Park, playing 16 games and kicking 15 goals. Recognised with a Rising Star nomination in Round 20, he has quickly built a reputation as a tough competitor and a tackling beast, who brings impressive pressure inside forward 50.

Ison has also had a bright start to his AFL career, announcing himself to the competition with a goal on debut when Carlton took on the Western Bulldogs in Round 10. He endeared himself to the AFL community instantly, when he was involved in a special pre-game moment for Sir Doug Nicholls Round.

A smooth mover with a dangerous left foot, Ison made Carlton history in 2025 when he became the Blues’ first Next Generation Academy recruit selected in the national draft.

A product of the Carlton Academy with fellow alumni Harry Dean, Ison is a proud Yorta Yorta and Wiradjuri man who played his football for the Oakleigh Chargers and Scotch College alongside now teammates Jagga Smith and Cooper Lord.

Both Byrne and Ison join fellow young gun Smith in extending their contracts further with the Club, a significant coup for the future of the emerging group.

"Talor and Jack have both shown great signs of being Carlton players for the future: they've come in, played senior footy in their first year and made an impact at the top level, and that's not easy to do," GM of Football Chris Davies said.

"Both Talor and Jack have taken their opportunity at AFL level with both hands, and it's been pleasing to see how far they've come in a short period of time. Their development continues to grow, with them both working hard every day both on and off the field.
