Exactly one year to the day of a breakout performance against the Gold Coast Suns, Francis Evans was at it once again for the Blues versus the Saints.

While that day against the Suns in 2025 produced four goals, Sunday’s game against St Kilda - a crucial one for the Club - saw Evans named by Carlton fans as the player of the match, on a night where there was no shortage of contributors.

Evans was everywhere in the forward half, contributing 22 disposals and 12 inside 50s (both career-highs) on a night where he also had 10 score involvements.

To put his performanceF into perspective, ESPN’s Matt Walsh posted on X that Evans became the first Blue - and just the sixth player ever - to record 6+ score assists, 10+ inside 50s and at least a goal according to Champion Data.

“I think I had more touches in the first quarter than I did for the game last week… I guess that’s the life of a half-forward,” Evans told Carlton Media post-match.

“The boys were on. I thought we brought our pressure for the whole game, which lets us play front-half footy.”

It’s been a career-best campaign for Evans, playing his most games in a season, averaging the most disposals over the course of his career and ranking No.1 at Carlton for goal assists (plus No.2 at the Blues for tackles inside 50).

It came as no surprise that Evans was recently rewarded with a two-year contract extension, with Blues fans embracing Evans on match day.

That has been reciprocated in kind by Evans and his teammates.

“It feels like when we’re putting that pressure on, the fans are an extra player out there. They were huge as well.”

While Evans was typically humble about his performance over the weekend, fellow forward Mitch McGovern was more than happy to single out Carlton’s No.44 for his recent form.

“He was incredible,” McGovern said. “Everything he touches at the minute turns to gold.

“He’s got a great connection out there with seven or eight guys in our forward group. The amount of chase pressure and work he does gets recognised internally, but I reckon across the League it’s probably underrated.”
