Carlton defender Matt Duffy has informed his teammates of his decision to head back home to Ireland this week. 

Duffy arrived at the Blues as a Category B rookie at the end of 2023, playing in 27 VFL games across two seasons. 

A resilient and well-liked member of the playing group, the 22-year-old has made the call in order to be closer to family after three years on the other side of the world.  

GM of Football Chris Davies acknowledged Duffy’s commitment and contribution to the Club since arriving at IKON Park.  

"Matt came to us having never played Australian Rules Football and worked hard to get the best out of himself every day," Davies said. 

"He showed a strong drive to learn and develop, and brought good energy to the playing group." 

"The club wishes Matt all the best as he returns home to Ireland."
