“WE’VE got to look at this season in a fashion that takes the good and the bad out of it, and understand that this club deserves better than to be eighth.”

Leaving no stone unturned.

Carlton General Manager of Football Chris Davies said the Blues needed to look at every avenue that opens the door for improvement, following an elimination final exit.

Wrapping up exit meetings at IKON Park on Thursday, Carlton confirmed nine further list changes this week, with Davies admitting “there have been some tough calls made”.

However, Davies said that every decision has been made with the view to taking the Club forward.

“When you make the number of changes that we end up doing, you get the sense that this list needs to evolve into the future… we’re searching for what’s next,” Davies told Carlton Media.

“The only way we’re going to be able to get in better shape in the future is to come prepared at the start of pre-season to work, we need to hit this off-season period to make our list better and to front up next year ready to grow.

“We’ll want to get our list in a better position now than what it was at the start of the year and continue to evolve as much as we can… There are areas of our list that need work. We’ve moved on a decent number through this delisting phase, we get an opportunity to reshape the list for the future - that’s going to be really important.”

Saying the Club would look to every avenue over the off-season, Davies said the Blues would aim to retain their draft hand “as much as we possibly can” in the pursuit of father-son prospect Cody Walker.

Looking to new recruits both on and off the field, Davies said all decisions would be made in order to best set the Blues up leading into their first pre-season under AFL Senior Coach Josh Fraser.

“We’ll try to be aggressive as we can, but also, the money is not burning a hole in my pocket. We’ve got to make sure we use it in the most appropriate form.

“When [Fraser] got appointed, you start to tick off the big rocks that he gives you a sense of. The fantastic thing about Josh is he’s really clear on what the program needs to look like next year, he’s had a clear view of what he wants pre-season to look and feel like.

“It’s the rest of our jobs now to help him out.”
