CARLTON defenders Nic Newman and Nick Haynes will remain at Carlton in 2027, after both signed one-year extensions.
Newman continues at IKON Park after playing 16 games this season, reaching his 150th AFL game in Round 20 against Gold Coast.
A three-time Best Clubman (2020, 2022, 2023) and two-time John Nicholls Medal runner-up (2023, 2024), Newman brought maturity and a high football IQ to a transformed backline this year, working alongside former Sydney teammate Ollie Florent.
Averaging over 21 disposals and seven marks per game across his Carlton career, Newman enjoyed a solid 2026 season after being ruled out for the entirety of the previous season following a ruptured patella.
Haynes arrived at Carlton ahead of the 2025 season from Greater Western Sydney, wasting no time settling in, bringing stability and consistency to the backline across his 42 games in Navy Blue so far.
Ranked third in the AFL for marks and 20th for intercepts per game this season, the 34-year-old also led Carlton in both categories during 2026. Celebrating another excellent season at the Blues, the defender also played his 250th AFL game this year.
Alongside Newman, Haynes has played a key role mentoring an emerging group of young defenders at Carlton, including the likes of Harry Dean, Billy Wilson, Harry O’Farrell and Wade Derksen.
Carlton GM of Football Chris Davies welcomed the re-signing of both players in Navy Blue.
