The Carlton Football Club has announced the appointment of Andrew McKay to the Club’s Board.
The appointment is part of a considered succession plan that sees Greg Williams stepping down after five years as a Director, while continuing his involvement with the Club in a consultancy capacity focused on the Carlton Academy as well as stakeholder engagement – areas where his passion and contribution are greatly aligned.
Carlton President Rob Priestley paid tribute to Williams' ongoing service to the Club.
"Greg Williams is Carlton through and through. His contribution to this club across his playing career and his time as a Director cannot be overstated, and his ongoing commitment to our Academy and supporter community remains a valuable asset,” Priestley said.
"Greg has a genuine passion for developing young talent and for connecting with Carlton people – and that is exactly where his energy continues to be directed. We are fortunate to have someone with his depth of experience and connection to the Club still so invested in our future.
"We are delighted to welcome Andrew McKay to the Board. Andrew brings exceptional experience having held influential roles at both the AFL and at Carlton post his playing career. As a premiership player and former Club Captain, he has a genuine passion for the Club, and we are confident he will make an outstanding contribution."
Williams reflected on his time as a Director and his continued connection to the Club.
"Carlton has always been my Club. I've loved the opportunity to contribute at Board level over the past five years, and I'm just as excited about the work I continue to do in developing our Academy and connecting with Carlton people.
"I’m looking forward to focusing on these areas further and there couldn’t be a better person to hand over the reins to than Macca."
McKay’s breadth of experience post his distinguished playing career includes roles at the AFL across game development, laws of the game, and chairing the AFL Match Review Panel, as well as serving as Carlton’s General Manager of Football from 2011 to 2018.

The Club has quality football people at the helm, including Graham Wright and Chris Davies from a management perspective, as well as stable leadership at a governance level through Rob and the Board. In that regard, I’m committed to providing our people with the support required for success,” McKay said.
"Across my time as a player, GM of Football, and at the AFL, I've developed a holistic understanding of club and industry priorities. It's clear the Club is heading in the right direction and I look forward to contributing to the work already underway."
