“I’M HAVING so much fun.”
That’s the first thing that’s evident when you watch Nell Morris-Dalton play in Navy Blue.
Signed by the Blues just 10 days before the season to replace the injured Maddy Guerin, the former Bulldog and Magpie has made every post a winner throughout her opening two months.
After nine rounds, she sits atop the Carlton goalkicking table alongside Erone Fitzpatrick with 12 goals, as she became the first Blue not named Darcy Vescio to kick four in an AFLW game.
Speaking after her career-best performance against Sydney in Pride Round, Morris-Dalton said she’s exactly where she needs to be… after taking the long road to IKON Park.
“To come to a place where I feel valued and have staff that back me in and back my skills, I’m at a place where I’m enjoying footy again. It’s such a weight off my shoulders,” Morris-Dalton said.
“It’s really taken the pressure off and allowed me to play footy without all the other stuff. I’m having so much fun and I think that’s showing in my game.
“It’s such a great club and I’m so lucky to have landed here.”
AFLW Senior Coach Mathew Buck praised the influence of Morris-Dalton, not only for what she’s providing on the field as a key forward but also what she’s brought to the playing group.
Morris-Dalton was first introduced to Buck and the Blues when she signed for the Club’s VFLW team, with Buck saying “all she wanted to do was love her footy again”.
What has ensued is the byproduct of Morris-Dalton and Carlton being the perfect fit.
“If you see Nell during the week with our group, she’s a laugh a minute and has the girls losing it all the time. She’s certainly enjoying her footy away from game day, and that’s shining through on game day.
“She’s played a lot of footy this year. She seems to play at her best when she continues to play.
“She gives us that deep forward option, she’s a good mark overhead and she finishes her work really well. She’s been a great addition and we love having her.”
