A STIRRING second half of the season will have Carlton full of confidence with 2019 coming to a close.

Familiar faces fired in Navy Blue while the Club’s emerging youngsters owned the future in a campaign which saw the Blues record seven wins for the year.

With the home-and-away season now over, we’re going through every player who featured for Carlton at senior level in 2019.

Here’s the year that was for Carlton’s No. 25, Zac Fisher.

OVERVIEW 

2019 marked another year of growth for Zac Fisher, with the third-year Blue establishing himself as an integral cog in Carlton’s midfield.

Missing only one game this season through illness, Fisher continued to grow and strings to his bow in both the midfield and forward line. 

Fisher proved himself as a consistent ball-winner through the centre, averaging 17.5 disposals - including seven contested - per game.

In the final two months of the year, Fisher made the move to a forward role: his craftiness in attack was best highlighted when he produced the assist for Marc Murphy’s winner against Fremantle.

BEST PERFORMANCE

Fisher’s best performance came early in the piece, with the young midfielder shining in Carlton’s 44-point victory against the Western Bulldogs to open the account for the year.

Bobbing up again and again at the centre bounce, Fisher finished the day with 28 disposals and seven clearances in a performance which yielded four coaches’ votes.

It was also  his offensive prowess that contributed to the Blues’ dominance inside 50, producing eight score involvements for the game: two of those were goal assists, while he also had a major of his own. 

SEASON HIGHLIGHT

Having missed just seven games since making his AFL debut in 2017, Fisher chalked up his 50th game for Carlton in Round 17 - and he marked it in a memorable way.

With the Blues enjoying their first win at the SCG in eight years, Fisher’s second-quarter goal was one which made the highlights reel. 

Hunting the ball inside 50, Fisher took possession, turned towards goal and instinctively snapped truly under pressure.

THEY SAID IT

Assistant coach Brent Stanton was full of praise for Fisher’s development and skill in an episode of Carlton Coaches’ Corner.

“His sidestep is really exciting for the group. With that left foot, he has the ability to hit short targets and long targets,” Stanton said.

“I think he proves to all fans that there is something special going forward here.”
