CARLTON will run out onto Windy Hill to face traditional rivals Essendon on Saturday at 12pm.

The Blues will be aiming to secure their first win of the season after going down to Casey and the Southern Saints in their first two hit-outs.

Last time they met

With a final score of 14.8 (92) to 2.5 (17), the Blues secured their biggest win of the season and their highest total score.

AFLW forward Darcy Vescio made this game her own with nine goals in a dominant day inside 50.

This led to her leapfrogging Darebin forward Hannah Mouncey to win the 2018 Rohenna Young Medal for being the VFLW’s leading goalkicker.

Player to watch: Mia-Rae Clifford

Clifford’s versatility throughout the Blues’ first two games has been impressive, as she’s been able to make an impact in the midfield and across half-forward.

She was named in the Round 3 VFLW Team of the Week in the midfield, after gathering 13 disposals and laying nine tackles in Carlton’s 24-point loss to the Southern Saints.

Opposition to watch: Arthurina Moreen

Moreen, a Northern Territory Under 18 representative, is leading Essendon’s goal kicking so far this season after kicking four goals in three games.

In the lead-up to the VFLW, Moreen played 11 games for NTFL premiers Waratah in the 2018/19 season, booting nine majors during the campaign.

Shannon’s say:

“We’re expecting them to be quite tough and ferocious at the footy, it should be a really hard fought-out contest, so we’ll be looking to match their physicality.”
