Two of Carlton’s leaders have earned a place in AFL Media’s Round 3 ‘Team of the Week’ following an impressive win in tough conditions over the Bombers on Sunday.

Captain Marc Murphy put in a brilliant performance in the Blues’ 15-point victory over Essendon, collecting 32 disposals and two goals in an impressive midfield display.

The captain was named in the Round 3 AFL Media Team of the Week as a follower, alongside Cat Patrick Dangerfield and Gold Coast’s Jarrod Witts.

Meanwhile, defender Sam Docherty was named in the backline alongside Crow Kyle Hartigan and Collingwood player Henry Schade.

Docherty had 20 disposals and took nine marks in the victory over the Bombers, and along with Murphy, got the ball moving with 499m gained and four rebounds.

Impressive youngster Caleb Marchbank was considered for a spot on the bench after a composed game, but the number of dominating midfield performances saw him closely miss out on selection.

Murphy’s performance on the weekend also earned praise from the AFL coaches, having received the maximum number of votes (10) this week in the 2017 AFLCA Champion Player of the Year Award.

The skipper will no doubt have his work cut out for him again, when the Blues take on the in-form Gold Coast Suns at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.
