PATRICK Kerr finished the hero in the Northern Blues’ three-point victory over Collingwood on Saturday.

The young Blue was influential with 13 disposals and three goals, with his final goal in the last two minutes to put the Blues ahead.

Kerr has transitioned back into the forward line to start the VFL season, having spent a portion of preseason down back.

And development coach Jason Davenport was full of praise for the third-year Blue.

“Patrick transitioned back into the forward line once the season got underway and is really starting to home in on his craft at VFL level,” Davenport said.

“Patrick owns and drives his career throughout the week.”

While the young forward took advantage of his own scoring opportunities, he was equally quick to share the glory with his teammates against the Pies.

Kerr combined his five shots on goal on Saturday with two classy assists in a tight contest against the Pies.

“For a taller player, he has quite a beautiful kick on him and he’s always looking to get his teammates involved in the game,” he said.

“Forwards work out quite quickly that if they can get their teammates involved in the game, maybe those teammates might do the same in return.”

Kerr showed his contested marking prowess against the Pies, finishing with seven marks behind only Hugh Goddard (eight marks).

“His timing to take the ball at its highest point is a particular skill of his,” he said.

“He does that by creating space to work into versus sitting under the ball.”

Kerr is building his on-field leadership with the Northern Blues while vying for selection in an increasingly competitive AFL list.

“Pat’s natural character is really one of leadership,” he said.

“He is really clear with his communication and our structures in the forward line in particular.”
