As Saturday’s draw confirmed, you can never be sure of what will happen in a game of AFL, including the Grand Final. Unlike the Carlton Grand Final Eve Luncheon which is always a sensational afternoon.

The Carlton Grand Final Eve luncheon was established over 25 years ago and is now well and truly the traditional start to Grand Final weekend celebrations in Melbourne. And last Friday’s function was another sensational affair with guests enjoying a host of entertainment.

Mike Brady singing “One Day in September” and then the National Girls Choir performing “I Still Call Australia Home” was how the Carlton Grand Final Eve Luncheon got under way at the Melbourne Town Hall. While thousands of people were lining the streets of Melbourne for the Grand Final Parade, hundreds were enjoying first class entertainment inside the Melbourne Town Hall.

Glenn Shorrock provided more music, including “Help is on it’s Way” and “Reminiscing” while Vince Sorrenti and Raymond Crowe kept the laughs coming with two brilliant routines.

Of course the highlight for Carlton supporters in the crowd was the appearance of 2010 Brownlow Medallist, Chris Judd, who spoke with MC Jim Wilson about the week, the Grand Final and Carlton’s future.

The Harambee Youth Choir, Wesley College Big Band and the T-Jam Dancers were part of the big finish to the afternoon of entertainment.

The Carlton Grand Final Eve Luncheon showed once again why it is the place to be on Grand Final Eve. With such a line-up of entertainment it would be impossible to host such an event for the replay Grand Final as this type of function is more like a year in the making than a week.

What we hope to see now is a Carlton Grand Final Eve Luncheon with the Carlton team in the Grand Final Parade.
