THERE'S no need to be alarmed if you hear what sounds like a couple of horses roaming around Carlton HQ.

It's just Blues forward Darcy Vescio giving the ultimate compliment to young gun Charlotte Wilson.

"I call her the horse because she's built like a horse … she's so fit and strong," Vescio told womens.afl.

"As soon as she entered our program last year, she was pretty much the biggest girl at our club.

"She loves it, she neighs, I neigh at her.

"She's a very funny person and she's very intelligent, too, so we have a good laugh.

"I just can't believe how developed she is."

Playing just her eighth AFLW game, Wilson was outstanding for the Blues in their eight-point win against reigning premiers Adelaide last Sunday.

The 19-year-old had 19 disposals, nine marks and four rebound 50s, with her intercept marking in defence earning high praise from coach Daniel Harford.

"I thought she was outstanding, a clear standout for us," Harford said.

"My wife sends me a message after every game, she gives away a chocolate frog.

"She was adamant there was only one frog to be given today, it went to Charlotte.

"If Bec's giving away frogs, you know she's had a good day.

"Charlotte's eight games into her AFLW career and she's growing every single week."

Wilson was the 27th overall pick in the 2018 NAB AFLW Draft from Eastern Ranges and Southern Saints (VFLW), playing five games for the Blues last season, including the Grand Final.

She missed the round three win over the Western Bulldogs with illness, but slotted back into the side seamlessly against the Crows.

Vescio, a foundation player with the Blues, has been blown away with Wilson's willingness to improve.

"She's an amazing teammate because she wants to learn," Vescio said.

"She's starting to learn how much strength she has on the field, and if she uses her body, she can't really be beaten.

"She's got a lot to learn in terms of the game, but if she can get that right, then she's a towering figure."

Vescio was also important in the win over the Crows, racking up 17 disposals, including a team-high 10 contested possessions, four inside 50s, three score assists along with kicking the match-sealing goal.

The 2017 All-Australian is enjoying having the pressure valve released by playing higher up the ground than in previous years.

"I'm really comfortable close to goal, but also, you can become very goal-focused and if it's not happening, you put a lot of pressure on yourself," Vescio said.

"It's felt pretty freeing, being a bit more creative up the field and try and create more opportunities for my teammates.

"I really enjoy the challenge of delivering it in and working out what the girls want.

"It's been really good to have the freedom to play that different position and not being expected to kick a lot of goals."

The Blues (3-1) take on St Kilda (1-3) in an all-Conference B encounter at Ikon Park in the third annual Carlton Respects AFLW game this Saturday night.
