THE Northern Blues have pulled off a significant coup on the eve of the 2020 VFL season, signing former Western Bulldog Lukas Webb.

With 24 games at the elite level, Webb spent five seasons at Whitten Oval and earned a reputation for his skills by foot and ability in the air.

Capable of playing in any area of the ground, Webb had been training with Carlton since the end of 2019 and presents a valuable signing for the VFL Blues.

Across his VFL career with Footscray, Webb is a proven accumulator and goalkicker, registering 47 goals from 58 games and averaging 22 disposals from his 13 games in 2019.

A VFL premiership winner with the ’Scray in 2016, Webb rounds out the Club’s recruitment of ex-AFL talent, joining Jordan Cunico (Geelong) and Cody Hirst (Sydney) at Preston City Oval in 2020.

Northern Blues General Manager Ben Brennan said Webb’s signing was a key addition with less than a month remaining before the season opener.

“We’re really excited to add Lukas to our club: we think he’s going to offer quite a bit to our playing group,” Brennan said.

“He’s got a lot of VFL experience which is really important for our young group. With his pace, his class and the fact that he plays multiple positions, he’s a big inclusion for us.

“Obviously he’s been around Ikon Park for a while, having trained with the Carlton boys over pre-season. He’s a quality player and person and we’re delighted to have him with us.”
