IT’S A fait accompli that Sam Walsh will forge a number of memories in Navy Blue in the years to come.

However, from an outstanding first season, there’s one that stands above the rest for the Rising Star winner.

Round 12, 2019.

For Senior Coach David Teague, it’s clearly a day he’ll never forget. And the same goes for Walsh.

“That game, I’ll remember forever. I grew up as a Brisbane Lions fan as a kid and there was a lot of excitement around the Blues,” Walsh told FOX Sports.

“It all seems pretty clear from that day.

“For us as a group, when you go through tough times, you like to think it makes you stronger together.”

After a difficult week at Ikon Park, Carlton was 37 points down and goalless against a Brisbane side which was the most improved team in the competition.

However, Walsh - as a number of other Blues have said about that day - felt his team was up for the fight.

What resulted was a significant turnaround and a memorable Carlton win at Marvel Stadium.

The youngster credited the impact of Teague, who was in his first game as coach, as integral to the comeback.

“He sees the game very well. When we came into half time, he was really pumping us up that we finished the quarter on top,” he said.

“That ability to give us confidence really helped us… ‘Teaguey’ really drove that belief.”

Then, there was the small case of the co-captain.

Walsh polled his first Brownlow votes that game, but he had a front row seat to the best individual performance of the season.

“When you’re out there playing, a lot of the time you don’t realise the impact players are having, even if they’re having great games,” he said.

“I still remember that day and the way ‘Crippa’ imposed himself in the second half stood out.

“He had a focus to hit the scoreboard more and more because that’s what the best players do. He did that that day.”
