Chris Judd has dismissed speculation about his injured knee – confirming he will be playing on next season.

The 257-game veteran strained the medial ligament in his left knee, in Carlton's Round 20 clash with the Western Bulldogs.

He will wear a brace for the next fortnight, and says if the Blues make the finals, he'll be a chance to play.

"It's not too bad, it's a little bit tender - not a huge drama," Judd said. "It'll be probably touch and go whether I play again this year, but we'll just see how it heals. But it's not a long-term injury."

Judd has also revealed he's hopeful of sitting in the coaches box, when Carlton takes on Richmond at the MCG on Saturday.

The dual Brownlow medalist says his team's season is still alive, and his teammates are looking forward to the chance to show what they're made of.

"I guess from our perspective you need to finish in the top eight to play finals. That's still a mathematical possibility for us.

"But more importantly than talk of us playing finals, we just need to play better footy, that's really important.

"Before we need to worry about any what-ifs and what's going to happen down the track, playing better footy and competing harder is our main focus. We need to do that this week against the Tigers."
