IT WAS a football comeback that captivated Carlton supporters in 2019 that has continued into 2020.

After a career-best start to this season, the worries of yesteryear seem a world away for Levi Casboult.

It’s a renaissance that is even more emphatic when you consider the circumstances around it, which Casboult opened up about to the Herald Sun.

He described 2018 as “a shocking year”, which saw his dad suffer a heart attack, the sudden loss of wife Hayley’s cousin Kade, a punctured lung and - in November - a miscarriage.

Writing in the Sunday Herald Sun, Casboult labelled the turning point and the influence of his “hero”, Hayley.

“The break helped me focus on what matter in life, which was family, health and happiness,” Casboult wrote.

“It’s funny, when I say how bad footy was going, that was also my outlet.

“Hayley was the one who encouraged me to see someone [a sports psychologist], which is how footy turned around. It’s not always physical.”

Citing the influence of a number of people, Casboult said the input and guidance of Hayley - who has joined Levi with children Lonnie, Arlo and Goldie in the hub - couldn’t be understated.

That’s not to say they’ve got everything figured out, as the pandemic has quickly shown.

The day before last week’s game against St Kilda, the Casboults (who live in a ‘hotspot') were on the move — quickly.

“At 2pm last Wednesday, Hayley got the call from Carlton saying we had to be out of the house by midnight and pack for 5-6 weeks away,” he wrote.

“It wasn’t ideal. Lucky Hayley was there because I would’ve lost the plot with a game the next day.

"It all happened quickly for us.... we threw some stuff into bags and spent the next four nights in an apartment in Jolimont."

In a must-read piece, Casboult speaks of life in the hub, his support network, his career coaches and much more. For the full article, click here (subscriber only) or grab a copy of today’s Sunday Herald Sun.
