Veteran midfielder Heath Scotland will continue his AFL career at Carlton, re-signing with the Blues for the 2013 season.

The 32-year-old joined Carlton at the end of the 2003 season in a trade with Collingwood for a second round draft selection, (Brent Hall), and will enter his 15th season in the AFL.

Carlton’s General Manager of Football, Andrew McKay, said the Club was extremely pleased that Heath has decided to play on for another season.

“Even in his thirties, Heath is one of the hardest working and most consistent players on the Carlton’s list,” he said.

“His on-field performance and leadership throughout the past two seasons has been significant and we would expect him to be one of the leading contenders for this year’s best-and-fairest.”

Scotland only missed one game through injury in 2012 and was the Blues leading possession winner with 553 at an average of 26 a game.

Runner in the 2007 John Nicholls Medal (Carlton Best & Fairest) and third in 2006, Scotland finished fourth last year when he won the Best Clubman Award.

Scotland played 21 games in 2012 for a total of 191 games with Carlton since making his debut for the Club in round one, 2004. He previously played 53 games for Collingwood between 1999 and 2003 and has now played a total of 244 AFL matches.
