“I’m the man in the arena” - Judd on Judd
Carlton captain Chris Judd has spoken candidly of life in the bubble in an exclusive interview for the club’s new interactive fancast, The Blue Print.
With three matches of a four-match suspension still to serve, Judd offered some insight into his life as an elite AFL footballer in an interview with hosts Andrew Maher and Mark Maclure.
In something of an understatement, Judd described his much-publicised matchday indiscretion and Tribunal sequel as “an unpleasant week to go through personally” and “a bit of a distraction” for the football club.
“It doesn’t change the fact that I made a mistake and when I make mistakes there’s obviously a huge amount of scrutiny compared with some other footballers,” Judd said.
“That’s the reality. I’ve got to make sure I don’t make stupid mistakes and especially so because of the way the world is when I do. There’s huge consequences.”
Philosophically speaking, Judd understood his vulnerability in such circumstance.
“You can’t control it and at the end of the day I’m the man in the arena, I’m playing the game and there’s millions of people who spend a lot of their time judging how I live my life, from how I play the game to what investment decisions I make, to what clothes I wear, to how I speak in public,” Judd said.
“I won’t say that I don’t care about those millions of people and the judgements they come to, but if I got too involved in each and every one of those judgments my brain would explode. So it’s important you’re true to yourself, and I think I’m authentic in what I do and what I say, and that the relationships you do hold dear are looked after. That’s all you can do.”
Judd also answered a series of educated questions directed at him from Carlton members by way of the club’s Google+ hangout.
