JARRAD Waite has been nominated for the Toyota AFL Goal of the Year for his freakish goal in the first quarter against the Pies on Saturday.

After receiving a free kick deep in the forward pocket, Waite was unable to play on because of his opponent’s position, so he skilfully kicked a goal that bounced and rolled through from the boundary.

Blues fans can view and vote for Waite’s goal at www.afl.com.au/markgoal.

Voting is open from the Monday after each round through to the following Sunday night.

In 2007, the winners of the Toyota AFL Mark and Goal of the Year awards will each receive:

  • $5000 for their grassroots club, also presented by Toyota
  • The use of a Toyota Kluger CV for 12 months
  • A crystal replica of the official, perpetual Toyota AFL Mark of the Year and Toyota AFL Goal of the Year trophies, presented by the AFL and Toyota
  • The Alex Jesaulenko Medal (mark) and Phil Manassa Medal (goal), presented by Toyota

At the end of the 22-round Toyota AFL Premiership season, the AFL All-Australian Selection Committee will decide the overall winner from the 22 weekly winners.

The awards will be the presented during 2007 Toyota AFL Grand Final week.
