Marc Murphy will captain the Carlton Football Club in the next four matches.

Carlton Coach Brett Ratten confirmed today that Murphy will be the acting captain in the absence of Chris Judd who will miss the next four matches due to suspension.

"Marc is a member of the leadership group and the next four weeks provides him with a great opportunity to demonstrate his own leadership style," Ratten said after training at Visy Park today.

"This is a position that he has earned through both his on field and off field leadership, particularly this year," Ratten added.

Murphy, who celebrated his birthday this week said it was a real honor.

"It is a great honor to be the acting captain of the Carlton Football Club. I am certain these next four games will help to further develop my leadership skills, particularly with the support of a number of quality leaders we have in our playing group," Murphy said.

There is no doubt the Blues will miss Chris Judd over the next month, his on field performance and his overall leadership. However adversity provides opportunity and a number of players will have a great chance to step up, including Murphy in the leadership role.
