Jarrad Waite is expected to push for Carlton selection this week, after an impressive return to football in the VFL.

Waite, who had not played a game of football since the Blues round seven clash against St Kilda had 13 possessions, six marks and kicked 2 goals in his return to the game in the Northern Blues 99-point victory over Coburg on Sunday.

Northern Blues Coach (and Carlton Development Coach), Darren Harris said Waite played well and would be given every opportunity to prove his fitness before Sunday’s clash against Sydney.

“He got through a full week of training week before the VFL game and has pulled up well today, which is a very encouraging sign,” Harris said.

“His performance on the weekend was solid across all four quarters.

“I think the real positive was late in the game, when he was putting a lot of pressure on it and was still able to run and play good football, added Harris.”

Waite was back at Visy Park today, joining his teammates for some fitness and light skill work in his quest to make his way into the team for Sunday’s match against Sydney Swans at Etihad Stadium. If he is selected he will play his 150th game for Carlton, a milestone that he has been waiting nearly three months to reach since playing his 149th game in early May.
