Whilst mindful of the fact that a police investigation is now underway, the club wishes to place on record its total disgust with these alleged actions of a supposedly mature individual towards a defenceless child.
“These are extremely serious allegations and I am horrified to think an adult supporter of any team, in particular a Carlton supporter, would verbally abuse and grab the throat of a 12 year-old boy. This is a disgraceful act, one that should not be part of our community and certainly not be seen at a football game,” said Carlton President Stephen Kernahan.
Kernahan said the AFL and clubs continue to work with the venues to ensure everyone enjoys a safe and friendly atmosphere when attending AFL games.
“We work with the AFL and all venues to ensure that a safe and family-friendly environment exists for all supporters, young and old, on match days and we need the support of everyone to ensure this is provided.
“I urge anyone with any information regarding this incident to contact the police to help them with their investigation,” said Kernahan.
The Carlton Football confirmed that in the event guilt is proven and the perpetrator is found to be a Carlton member, the club will without hesitation revoke his membership.
