THE big sister and the big talker.

Carlton secured Melbourne pair Elise O’Dea and Maddy Guerin in the first week of the AFLW Sign and Trade Period, with the duo set for a Navy Blue 2020 in exchange for pick No. 15.

But if the pair decide to car pool to Ikon Park, it won’t be the first car ride the two new recruits have shared over the years.

“Elise is great, I’m so rapt that she’s come across as well. I only really found out the day mine was confirmed and heard that hers was and I was just blown away,” Guerin said.

“She’s just been a big sister for me since I came to the Dees. We both lived in Preston while I was playing for a couple of years and I didn’t have my licence at the time so she would drive me to training and drop me home.

“She was always just there for a chat or any questions I had.”

O’Dea remembers these car chats too – although her version of events sees Guerin as a chatty youngster who could easily fill an hour journey.

“I often pay her out because she’s a bit of a talker and she often goes on these long-winded chats,” O’Dea said.

“I used to drive her home from training some nights, it was classic some of the talks we’d get into.

“The thing is, the car trips would go so quick. I remember we drove home from Geelong once from a practice match and the car trip was done in what felt like five minutes. She just chatted the whole way, it was great.”

But the powerful midfielder and former Melbourne co-captain couldn’t speak more highly of her fellow new Blue.

“I’m rapt for ‘Mads’, it gives her a real chance to have a real crack at this AFLW thing which is what she deserves,” she said.

“She’s a terrific player and a terrific person as well, Carlton have just nailed it by selecting her.

“She’s great fun, super smart so a wonderful human being let alone the raw talent that she has.”
