The game in focus:

In the theme of 2020, Carlton will line up against Adelaide after just a five-day break and looking for a strong finish to the year.

Despite their ladder position, the Crows are not to be underestimated following two consecutive wins over the Hawks and Giants.

Fresh off their come-from-behind victory over Sydney, Carlton will be eager to make a strong start to calm the nerves of Bluebaggers watching on after the most stressful of seasons.

Last time they met:

It was a Patrick Cripps masterclass when these two sides last met over a year ago at the MCG.

After Adelaide kicked out to an early lead, Carlton muscled its way back into the contest in front of a raucous Navy Blue crowd — and the co-captain was front and centre.

Well-supported by veterans Kade Simpson (31 disposals, one goal) and Levi Casboult (three goals), Cripps was unstoppable on the way to a clear three-vote performance.

While it was Will Setterfield who sealed the win with a clutch snap, there was no denying that the day belonged to Cripps, who finished with a career-high 39 disposals, 24 contested possessions and a staggering 19 clearances.

Blue focus:

It’s the return of the small forward, with Eddie Betts and Michael Gibbons both making their way back into the line-up in time for Sunday’s clash.

Kept goalless in the first term of their last hitout against the Swans, the return of some speed and finesse inside 50 for the Blues should see some free-flowing scoring opportunity.

Betts returns just in time to face his old side, with Sunday’s match marking the first time the veteran forward will face Adelaide after six seasons at West Lakes.

In a farewell game of sorts, both sides will be playing with plenty of heart for their retiring veterans on Sunday afternoon.

While he won’t join his Blues out on the field, retiring ruckman and much-loved Carlton veteran Matthew Kreuzer will be at the front of every Blue’s mind when the siren sounds at Metricon Stadium.

Adelaide will also be on the hunt for the four points to honour retiring Crow and former star Blue Bryce Gibbs, who began his journey at Ikon Park and played alongside Kreuzer for a decade in his time in Navy Blue.
