A DISAPPOINTING loss to the Adelaide in Carlton’s run home.

In their second last game of the season, the Blues were unable to fend off an attacking Crows, conceding the first five goals of the game.

Senior Coach David Teague responded candidly regarding his side’s performance, noting that the Blues lacked pressure and fundamentals when it counted.

“We’ve got to find a way to be more competitive, to do the basics, and that could be ground ball: when it’s your turn to put your head over the ball and just take the ground ball and keep the ball in front of you, the little things,” Teague said.

“It’s what happens, you’re not quite on your game and good teams will hurt you and today Adelaide hurt us.”

Teague is no stranger to the Crows’ current group, having spent three years as an Assistant Coach before moving to Carlton.

Applauding Adelaide’s efforts, Teague believed it made the Blues focal points glaringly obvious.

“[Adelaide] played well particularly early and in the second half when we were stronger in the contest, we started to win more of the contested footy and I thought our ability to get it to the open side was too little too late in the end,” he said.

“From both sides of the ball, from an offensive point of view and a defensive point of view, we shown we’re a fair way off.”

With finals now off the table, Teague lamented the missed opportunities from his side and assured that the learnings will not be lost on the group.

“We let our fans down and we have to keep working hard and this group is training hard but attention to detail, ability to be ruthless on each other and to be able to do it for four quarters and drive it for four quarters, that’s our next step,” he said.

“We’ve got a lot of areas to get better and we’ve got to do that, that ruthlessness, I dare say our group would want to fire up in that area because we let ourselves down today.”
