THE future of Carlton’s AFLW team will be realised when three new draftees arrive on Tuesday night.

Carlton is set to welcome three new Game Changers tomorrow, heading into a draft like no other with a pick in each of the three opening rounds.

Here’s a rundown on what to expect from the 2020 NAB AFL Women’s Draft.

Where the Blues stand

Carlton holds three picks heading into tomorrow’s draft, all within the top 40 selections after an active sign and trade period in August.

However, with the NAB AFL Women’s Draft selections allocated on the basis of zones with players committing to different locations, that draft hand shifts to three within the top 25 of Victoria’s talent pool.

The key pick for the Blues on the night will be selection No.12, looking to enter the draft strongly with the seventh look at Vic Metro’s best prospects.

Having secured three news Blues during the trade period with former Sun Charlotte Hamman joining Melbourne’s Elise O’Dea and Maddy Guerin in Navy Blue, the Blues were still able to maintain a first-round draft presence to welcome some elite young talent.

Drafts gone by

Carlton heads into the 2020 draft bolstered by the immediate success of its 2019 draft class, headed up by top picks Lucy McEvoy, Grace Egan and Mua Laloifi.

Four of Carlton’s seven selections in last year’s draft have already pulled on the Navy Blue, with McEvoy, Egan and Laloifi playing every game of 2019 and Brooke Vernon making her debut against the Western Bulldogs in Round 3.

McEvoy and Egan made an immediate impact alongside reigning 2019 NAB AFLW Rising Star - and 2020 AFLW Best and Fairest - Maddy Prespakis, both earning nominations for respective breakout performances.
