Carlton has gone for grunt in the lead-up to one of the season’s defining matches, against Essendon at the MCG on Friday night.

The Blues have elevated Richard Hadley, Dennis Armfield and Mitch Robinson, and have named Marcus Davies for his senior debut.

Davies was taken with the club’s third round selection (43 overall) in the 2009 NAB AFL Draft. The 19 year-old former North Hobart half-back flanker earns his promotion after a series of creditable performances for the Bullants.

Three Carlton players have paid for last Saturday’s 48-point defeat, with Andrew Walker, Chris Johnson and Brad fisher all omitted. Chris Yarran is unavailable with an ankle injury.
