FIVE of Carlton’s bright young stars of its 2021 AFLW campaign have been recognised for their outstanding form this season.

Announced this morning, Carlton has the most representatives in this year’s AFLW 22Under22 squad of any other club.

The 2020 AFLW Best and Fairest Madison Prespakis is featured alongside Grace Egan, Georgia Gee, Lucy McEvoy and Abbie McKay.

The nod for Prespakis is unsurprising after her consistent year in the midfield: the third-year Blue finished the year among Carlton’s best, with an average of 21.2 possessions (11.1 contested) and four score involvements over her eight games.

Egan makes her second consecutive appearance in the squad, having been named following her outstanding debut year in 2020.

Playing every game in 2021, Egan was consistent with her pressure around the ball: she consistently troubled opposition midfielders with an average of 16 disposals and four tackles a game.

Also appearing for consecutive years, fan-favourite Georgia Gee has been named in the midfield for the 2021 squad.

Gee is often regarded as one of the league’s most skilful players with immaculate goal sense, often bobbing up inside 50 for game-defining goals.

The fourth-year Blue contributed four goals over her 2021 campaign and provided a handy option through the midfield with an average of 11 disposals and three tackles a game.

Appearing for the first time in an AFLW 22Under22 squad, second-year Blue and 2019 pick No.2 Lucy McEvoy features among the midfielders.

Despite missing the opening two rounds of the season with a fractured cheekbone, McEvoy hit the ground running in Round 3 with St Kilda.

With an average of 12 disposals a game at 67 per cent disposal efficiency, McEvoy continued to grow into the season and provide an important link from the midfield to the forward 50.

Capping off the Carlton 2021 representatives is another first-time Blue, Abbie McKay.

The third-year Blue went from strength to strength in 2021: looking for consistent game time after her first two years, McKay’s off-season efforts were rewarded with selection for the entirety of the nine-round season.

The final team of 22 will be announced on the AFLPA’s channels on Tuesday 20 April.
