CARLTON will be without Jack Silvagni this weekend with the versatile forward ruled out due to concussion.

In his first game back since shoulder surgery, Silvagni was part of a potent Carlton attacking mix before sustaining a knock courtesy of some friendly fire.

Subbed out of the game for Sam Petrevski-Seton, Silvagni will not be able to partake in Sunday’s clash with Melbourne as per AFL protocols.

“We saw Jack had some concussion symptoms at the time,” Director of High Performance Andrew Russell said.

“He pulled up pretty well after it. He’ll go into the 12-day concussion protocol and hopefully we will see him out there in two weeks’ time again.”

Silvagni could be replaced in the selected line-up by Marc Murphy, with the veteran on track to return from neck soreness which has ruled him unavailable for the last fortnight.

After collecting 19 disposals and two goals in his most recent game against Brisbane, Russell said Murphy would be tested this week during training.

“‘Murph’ trained today, he’ll train on Thursday and we expect him to be available this weekend, which is great,” he said.

There was also positive news for Zac Fisher, who is on track to return to the team’s ball program next week.

Having returned to running in recent weeks, Russell said Fisher would need “a few weeks” among the ball program to put his hand up for selection.

In line with last week’s update, Jack Martin is on track to return to action in the next 1-2 weeks.

Draftee Jack Carroll played his first VFL game on the weekend after a thumb injury, getting through the game unscathed ahead of the upcoming bye for the reserves side.

“He played a full game after not playing for five weeks: he was probably lacking a little bit of game fitness,” Russell said.

“We expect him to be playing a full game [next week].”
