FOUR new Game Changers have arrived at IKON Park tonight, adding to an already exciting playing group at the Blues.

Annie Lee, Keeley Sherar, Brooke Vickers and Imogen Milford will wear the Navy Blue, joining a Game Changers group that is set to emerge together at the elite level.

Cool, calm, classy and composed, that’s what the Game Changers have added in the form of Lee, who Carlton has welcomed with pick No.10 in the 2021 NAB AFL Women’s Draft.

Named across half back in the 2021 NAB AFLW Under-19 All-Australian team, Lee - a Geelong Falcon - is a defender who backs herself in the air with her reading of the play a clear standout.

Adding to a Carlton defensive mix containing the likes of Kerryn Harrington and Charlotte Wilson, Lee can lock down on her direct opponent while also supplying some drive and rebound from the back half.

Born in Warrnambool then growing up in Scotland before returning to Victoria eight years ago, it’s been a road well travelled for Lee, whose football journey has just taken another significant step.

Selected with pick No.11, Carlton welcomed the athletic Sherar on the night of the 2021 NAB AFL Women’s Draft from the Eastern Ranges.

A consistent ball winner with an impressive turn of foot, Sherar averaged 14.8 disposals in the NAB League competition in 2021, as well as just shy of five tackles per game.

Sherar’s athleticism is something that has caught many recruiter’s eyes, but she can back it up with tackling pressure and setting up scoring opportunities.

As well as performing well for the Eastern Ranges, Sherar played four solid games for Hawthorn’s VFLW side, with her transition running and physicality in the contest standing out in equal measure.

A premiership player for the Oakleigh Chargers, Vickers was selected with pick No.23 in the 2021 NAB AFL Women’s Draft.

Vickers has outstanding attributes, playing as a utility for the Chargers and Vic Metro.

It was her run and long kicking where Vickers did most damage, backing in her skills to maximum effect as an offensive outlet.

The Game Changers have also added some attacking firepower at the 2021 NAB AFL Women’s Draft, selecting Milford from the Casey Demons.

The 21-year-old realised her AFLW dream when her name was called out with pick No.26 on Tuesday night.

A focal point of Casey’s attack in the VFLW competition this season, the 179-centimetre key forward ended the year as the runner-up in the goalkicking table, producing 19 goals from 15 games.

Included in her prolific performances was a bag of six goals against Hawthorn, as well as three classy goals in a best-on-ground performance against eventual Grand Finalists Collingwood.

Milford is a natural forward, using her height to her advantage while also applying pressure at ground level.

GM of Women’s Football Brett Munro said the Blues could not be happier with the four players the Club had selected.

“All four girls are unique with what they’ll bring to our club, every one of them strengthening our list across the field,” Munro said.

“Brooke is consistent, runs outstanding patterns and her attack on the footy is elite.

“She been so committed to her football, and the results have been on display, particularly in the last 12 months. She’s a great user of the football and someone who was crucial to the Oakleigh Chargers’ NAB League success.

“She also represented Vic Metro at the under-19 championships and Port Melbourne in the VFLW competition, where she more than held her own.

“She gets to the right spots as a defender and she can also get involved in the attacking phase, which is so important in the modern game. We’re looking forward to seeing what she can produce in the Navy Blue.

“Annie is such a classy, natural footballer and we’re thrilled to have her at our football club for the 2021/22 season and beyond.

“She uses the ball well out of defensive 50 and reads the play to intercept mark and spreads to provide counter attack. She does a lot of things well and we think joining our program will only add to that.

“We think she’ll thrive playing alongside someone like ‘Kez’ with our defenders and we certainly see her making an impact at our football club for a long, long time.

“We are really excited to have Keeley on board. She has some really eye-catching moments through the midfield: she’s got some tricks, with her pace and her sidestep.

“Keeley has X-Factor, she is going to be one our members and supporters will absolutely love. She really took her game to another level this season and her form and future scope for improvement couldn’t be ignored.

“Imogen has been made to do it the hard way through the VFLW competition, but she has taken her game from strength to strength and emerged as one of the most-prolific forwards outside of the AFLW competition.

“She’s strong in the air, she knows where the goals are and what the coaches will love about her is when the ball hits the ground, she’s there to pressure the opposition and use her presence to the team’s advantage.

“We’re thrilled that our club is able to give Imogen the chance she deserves and we’ve got no doubt that she’ll grab it with both hands.”
