Junior clubs: Gippsland Power (VIC)
AFL clubs: Carlton
Carlton debut: Round 18, 2017
Recruited from: Gippsland Power (VIC)
Brownlow Medal votes: 18
The 2021 Coleman Medallist backed it up in 2022, having the help of Charlie Curnow in the forward 50.
Having kicked 174 career goals so far, McKay dealt with the added pressure to once again earn his reputation as one of the most dominant forwards in the competition.
Being Carlton’s leading goalkicker three years in a row (2019, 2020 and 2021), McKay had a weight lifted off his shoulders with the return of his sidekick in Curnow, with his team able to have more than one tall target inside the 50.
McKay once again displayed his aerial prowess, averaging six marks per game while also bringing the ball to ground for his small forwards when he couldn’t take the grab.
With Charlie Curnow winning the Coleman Medal in 2022, McKay and Curnow became the first teammates in over 100 years to win consecutive Coleman Medals.
