After an active 2015 AFL Trade Period, Carlton has not only boosted its position in the draft, but also welcomed five talented youngsters through its doors - three being former first-round draft picks!

The Blues completed six trades across the 11 days, with Carlton’s General Manager of List Management and Strategy, Stephen Silvagni, working around the clock to secure the best outcomes for the club.

Four former Giants Lachie Plowman, Jed Lamb, Andrew Phillips and Liam Sumner, along with former Crow Sam Kerridge, are all delighted to call Ikon Park home in 2016.

As well as securing young players with plenty of AFL experience, the Blues also strengthened their draft position by acquiring an additional three first-round draft picks.

The Blues will have four top-20 draft picks for the first time in their history. 

THE TRADES:

Trade 1: Lachie Henderson was traded to Geelong in exchange for the Cats’ 2016 first-round draft pick.

Trade 2: Tom Bell and pick 41 was traded to Brisbane for picks 21 and 60 in this year’s draft.

Trade 3: Troy Menzel was traded to the Crows in exchange for Sam Kerridge and pick 28.

Trade 4: Pick 28 (acquired from the Crows for Menzel), 77, 95 and Geelong’s 2016 first-round draft pick (in the Lachie Henderson deal) was traded to the Giants in exchange for pick 8 in this year’s draft as well as Lachie Plowman, Jed Lamb, Andrew Phillips and Liam Sumner.

Trade 5: Picks 20 and 21 along with 2016 fourth-round pick, was traded to the Bulldogs for Pick 11 and their 2016 third-round pick.

Trade 6: Chris Yarran was traded to Richmond for pick 19.

WHAT IT MEANS:

Carlton has picks 1, 8, 11, 19, 59, 60 and 113 heading into the 2015 AFL Draft, which is being held in Adelaide on November 24.

IN: Sam Kerridge, Lachie Plowman, Jed Lamb, Andrew Phillips, Liam Sumner and picks 8, 11, 19, 60 and Bulldogs’ 2016 third-round pick.

OUT: Tom Bell, Lachie Henderson, Troy Menzel, Chris Yarran and picks 20, 21, 28, 41, 77, 95, Geelong’s 2016 first-round pick and 2016 fourth-round pick.

The Blues’ General Manager of List Management and Strategy, Stephen Silvagni says: "I think we're going to get some really good players with our first three picks. Having said that, we should get a pretty good player with pick 19."

Sam Kerridge

Since making his debut in Round 3, 2012 v Hawthorn, the 22-year old has played 27 AFL games and kicked 23 goals. Kerridge loves to run and took out first place in the Crows 3km time trial earlier this year.

Lachie Plowman

Defender Lachie Plowman was recruited with the No. 3 draft pick in the 2012 National Draft and has played 20 AFL games.

Jed Lamb

This will be Jed Lamb’s third AFL club after previous stints at the Swans and most recently the Giants. The young forward has kicked 17 goals in his 22 senior games.

Andrew Phillips

Andrew Phillips, who stands at 202cm, has played 14 AFL games since being recruited through the 2010 Rookie Draft. The ruckman can also find the big sticks, kicking five goals in those 14 games.

Liam Sumner

Wingman Liam Sumner who was recruited with pick 10 in the 2011 National Draft, has played 12 AFL games since making his debut against Carlton in 2012.
