THE CARLTON Football Club has completed the signing of Poppy Schaap, finalising its playing list for the upcoming 2022 AFLW season.

Schaap arrives at IKON Park after beginning the pre-season down the highway as a train-on player with Geelong.

A supreme ball-winner with an appetite for tackling, Schaap produced an eye-catching Under-18s season for the Geelong Falcons, averaging 19 disposals, 3.5 Inside 50s, 5.5 tackles and nearly 3 clearances across her 10 games, as well as booting eight goals.

The 18-year-old was also a member of the Vic Country side that won this year’s National Championships.

Schaap then rounded out the year with selection in the 2021 NAB League Team, that included three fellow Navy Blue draftees Keeley Sherar, Brooke Vickers and Falcons’ teammate Annie Lee.

Carlton GM of Women’s Football Brett Munro said the Club was excited to welcome Schaap to the Club.

“We had been tracking Poppy’s development throughout the year and are happy to have her now join our group,” Munro said.

“She loves tackling and bringing her teammates into the game which are two attributes we really value as we look ahead to the upcoming season.

“We believe Poppy has the work rate that will give her every chance to succeed as part of our program, so we are looking forward to see her do that over the pre-season and into next year.”

Schaap has been added to the list as a replacement player for Serena Gibbs who was placed on the Inactive List last week.
