Carlton defender Rob Monahan will remain at Carlton in 2027, after signing a one-year extension to continue as a Category B rookie.

Arriving at Carlton at the end of 2023, the Irishman has shown promise in his time with the Reserves, featuring across half-back and taking on tagging roles when required.

A constant presence and diligent performer in the VFL, Monahan played all bar one game across his first two seasons in football, before the 22-year-old only managed four games in 2026 due to a shoulder injury.

Regarded for this athleticism and great running power, he has demonstrated he can play on both sides of the body having previously represented Kerry in Gaelic football.

Carlton GM of Football Chris Davies said the Club was pleased to see Monahan continue in Navy Blue.

“Rob has shown enough in his time with the Reserves to earn this opportunity, and we're looking forward to seeing his continued progress,” Davies said.

“He has the right drive and attitude you want from an elite athlete, the way he has responded from his injury has been great and we can’t wait to see him attack his pre-season in November.”
