'TIS THE season of giving.

The AFLW team exchanged Kris Kringle gifts on the last training session of the year in true holiday spirit.

For Darcy Vescio, she might've walked away with more than she bargained for when she entered IKON Park that evening.

"Last night we had our Club Kris Kringle and I actually thought I was going to miss out on getting a present because there were only a few left," Vescio said.

"I was sitting there getting a bit nervous."

Vescio then spotted a present covered with a towel and feared the worst: the dreaded stick insect.

"I noticed there was a towel over a box and in the past, there have been some stick insects that have been gifted and passed around," Vescio said.

"I thought 'great, I’ve got the stick insects'."

To Vescio's surprise, she was not going to be taking home some low-maintenance stick insects, but a brand new fish with a fish tank included.

"When I lifted up the towel, it was a fish tank with a little black fish in there, a very cute fish," Vescio said.

"I already have a few goldfish at home and my partner Emily isn’t too fond of them because she’s often the person cleaning the tank."

Vescio was right about her partner's reaction, texting her to be prepared when she arrived home.

Darcy Vescio's new fish and fish tank from Greg.

"I texted her when I was about to leave the Club and I said 'you’re not going to believe what I’ve got'," Vescio said.

"She was on her hands and knees when I got the fish out of the car, she couldn’t believe it."

In what could've been a deal-breaker for the two, Vescio has embraced her new pet, but has noted that her gift-buyer should watch out next Kris Kringle.

"We’ll make do, when a fish comes to you, you have to build it a home and make sure you look after it," Vescio said.

"I think Grace Egan is responsible for the fish so I think she better look out next year."
