The Carlton Football Club today proudly launches its 2022 Pride guernsey, which will be worn by the Game Changers in Sunday’s Round 3 Pride Game against the Western Bulldogs at Whitten Oval.

The game will mark the fifth consecutive season the two teams have met in a celebration of pride, which is proudly held to recognise and support the LBGTQIA+ community by celebrating inclusiveness, gender diversity, and welcoming all people, no matter their sexual orientation.

Carlton CEO Brian Cook said the Club was looking forward to once again participating in the annual Pride Game.

“This is a concept that supports our values as a club and reflects our overall commitment to inclusion and belonging,” Cook said.

“We’re incredibly proud of the ongoing work and engagement we have with our Carlton Pride group and know the important role this game plays in being able to contribute to, and influence, positive societal progress.”

There is a key focus on the transgender community for 2022, with Carlton Pride Treasurer Rochelle Pattison highlighting the importance of this recognition in the guernsey design.

“The Carlton Pride group felt that acceptance of this community, inclusive of people of colour, is continuing to grow. There is progress to be made in our society that educates people on transgender, gender diverse and non-binary individuals and results in acceptance of their community,” Pattison said

Carlton Pride Secretary David Gould added “the 2022 Carlton Pride Guernsey takes on a new visual from its previous years to reflect growth and the colours represented in this guernsey show the full spectrum of the progress flag.”

“We have been very appreciative of the Carlton Football Club’s willingness to become a partner in championing inclusivity.”

There will be a limited number of Pride guernseys for sale at The Carlton Shop, and following the match, the players’ guernseys will also be auctioned off via the Club’s online auction site, with proceeds split between Carlton Pride and LGBTQIA+ charity Minus18.

Minus18 are the champions for LGBTQIA+ youth in Australia. The charity creates social change and mobilises community support through their identity-affirming, youth-driven events, workshops, education resources and campaigns across the nation.
