Bryce Gibbs today agreed to the terms of a new two-year contract with the Carlton Football Club, effective from 2011.

The decision means that Carlton’s (and the AFL’s) No.1 draftees of 2005, ‘06 and ‘07 - Marc Murphy, Gibbs and Matthew Kreuzer - are all contractually-bound to the Blues.

Carlton General Manager - Football Operations Steven Icke said that Gibbs’ decision to recommit “is a great endorsement of what we’re doing both on and off the field”.

“The club recognises that to ultimately have premiership success you need to keep your good players together, and provide an environment where they continue to grow both individually and collectively,” Icke said.

“Bryce believes in what Carlton is doing and where it’s heading and he has a genuine love for the Football Club. On that basis it was good to complete the negotiations early so that he can concentrate on his continued development as a senior player fired with an ambition, commitment and determination to help Carlton get back to being a strong, powerful and consistently successful football team that’s going to participate in finals for years to come.”

Gibbs said he was pleased to have made the commitment to Carlton well before his existing contract finished at the end of this season.

"It is fantastic to re-sign with the Blues. I have fitted in really well here and appreciate what the Carlton Football Club has done for me," Gibbs said.

As for suggestions in some media outlets that he may be looking elsewhere Gibbs couldn't believe such rumours.

"Why would I want to leave Carlton? I value my friendships, I am playing with a team that is committed to working together to achieve success and we train at the best facilities, as good as any in the world.

"Carlton is my home and I am thrilled to be a part of the Carlton Football Club and it is my aim to play my entire AFL career at Carlton," Gibbs added.

Now in his fourth season at senior level since crossing to Carlton from Glenelg, Gibbs has turned out in all nine senior matches so far this season, for a total of 77. He finished third in last year’s John Nicholls Medal count for the Club’s Best and Fairest player.
