CARLTON midfielder David Cuningham will remain at IKON Park in 2023.

The versatile and dynamic utility penned a one-year contract extension today, joining six of his teammates who last week re-committed to the Blues.

Cuningham spent the 2022 season in rehabilitation: however, while he was unable to make his senior return this year, it has ensured the 25-year-old will commence the start of pre-season in full training and ready to recapture his eye-catching form of 2021 that saw him electrify the Blues’ front half prior to his knee injury.

Carlton Head of List Management Nick Austin said the opportunity was there for Cuningham to launch into next season.

“Our club believes in its people and we certainly have that feeling towards David as we know what he is capable of achieving in a Carlton guernsey,” Austin said.

“Clearly he’s had his run of bad luck over the last 18 months, but as frustrating as this season was for him with not being able to play, the silver lining is that he will be fit and ready to go when the squad returns on day one of pre-season.

“The opportunity is there for David to make his mark on this side and we look forward to seeing him work hard to take his chance with both hands.”
