LIAM McMahon has made the move to the Carlton Reserves after spending the last two years signed to Collingwood’s AFL program.

The 20-year-old was selected by Collingwood with pick No.31 in the 2020 NAB AFL Draft and spent the past two years developing his craft with their VFL side.

Originally drafted as a key forward, McMahon spent the majority of his 2022 VFL campaign in defence, played in all possible 19 VFL games for the Pies in 2022 where he averaged 15.4 disposals.

The standout performance of his 2022 campaign came during Collingwood’s Round 4 match against GWS where he collected 21 disposals (16 of those kicks), eight marks and nine rebound 50s.

Carlton VFL Coach Luke Power said McMahon will continue to evolve as a footballer during his time at Carlton and will have access to some of the best facilities in the country to assist with his growth.

“Liam has shown a lot of potential during his past two seasons at Collingwood, and we’re keen to get him over to Carlton and utilise his talents at either end of the ground,” Power said.

“He also knows his way around the forward line while he strung together some consistent VFL football down back in 2022, which gives us more freedom in where we play him and makes him a versatile recruit.

“At only 20 years old, he has a bright football future ahead of him and we’re thrilled at Liam has chosen to spend the next phase of his career at Carlton.”
